Be Safe At The Lake This Weekend

Memorial Day is this weekend and before you go to the lake. There is a couple of things you may be doing, which are not safe.

Here is what you need to know before you get out on the lake.

With higher water levels, this state trooper is pointing out what you need to watch out for on Table Rock Lake.

“When the water is this level, it does make it more difficult to know where you’re at. I don’t get lost, but sometimes I have to do a double take when normally I wouldn’t,” Wilkins stated.

These father and son anglers are seeing the difference.

“Lot of water that’s for sure. We’ve been on table rock several times a year. We’re from Nebraska. But we’ve never seen it this high that’s for sure,” said angler & kayaker, Russell Wolf.

“It’s kinda crazy. They said five 100 year floods in the last ten years. Kinda nuts,” said angler & kayaker, Nathaniel Wolf.

“It’s crazy, but the bass are hiding under there, so it makes for good fishing,” said Russell Wolf.

Even as their lines are full, they are keeping safety in mind.

“Basically we don’t get out too far, so it’s not too swift or choppy. This morning it looked like we were on glass. Beautiful. But it’s getting a little choppier now,” said Russell Wolf.

The Wilsons are being smart and using life vests.

How can you tell if the one you are wearing is still safe? Look and make sure there are not any rips, tears, any kind of damage, and some even have expiration dates.

As troopers keep patrolling Lake Table Rock, here is another hidden danger they want you to look out for.

“The buoys whenever the lake is flooded the current starts and they tend to float and get misplaced. They also become a hazard for boaters when partially submerged and finally the ones the corps puts out to mark hazards,” finished Russell Wolf.

If you are on the water in a boat, troopers warn to carry your kill switch with you at all time. Do not create wakes near boat docks, and do not drink and drive... even on the lake.
